Designing Books: Practice and Theory (Hochuli)

When we were planning Katherine Small Gallery, we wanted to carry this book. We couldn’t understand why more book designers didn’t seem to know about it. Well, we soon found out: It’s out of print and stupidly expensive. We’re not sure this copy is priced any less-stupidly, but let us tell you this: We count our lucky stars that we came across this book so early in our career. We’ve turned to it countless times for examples of rational and thoughtful design. Whereas Hochuli’s Detail in Typography focuses on microtypography, here he covers the macro, the page as part of the whole book. These books go together like chocolate and peanut butter. Or peanut butter and jam. If you don’t get a copy from us, just be sure to get a copy.
