Dream in Color
We know there are important surveys of Black designers and creatives on the Internet, but it’s too easy to get distracted when looking at them (or, anything). We might be looking into one designer and then two seconds later we’re looking at something else that pops into our silly brains. But a book is something different. Tré Seals has done us a tremendous service by collecting in a plain-old book the work of thirty Black creatives from all over the world. This diverse and compelling collection is an excellent introduction to excellent work and follows a smart format: 1 pic + 1 short bio + 1 short statement + info about where to learn more. A tremendous resource.
And now a note about the fuckers at Amazon and the big box stores: They’re selling this book for $5 less than we are . . . and they offer free shipping. Why on earth would anyone buy this book from us? Well, you can pay full price and know that we’ll donate $5 to the Boston University Center for Antiracist Research. (But you still gotta pay for shipping [unless you come in].)
