First Specimen of Poster Galliard

$500.00

In the late 1970s and early 1980s, communication within Yale seemed to be done entirely poster. (This was probably also true into the ’90s and ’00s, but that’s a story for another time.) Alvin Eisenman asked Matthew Carter to make a display version of his Galliard. In 1980, Matthew brought drawings for the 12-point to his class and had the students make a refined version with narrower characters and thinner hairlines specifically for use at poster size. Matthew then pasted it all up into this poster with the names of the students who worked on this with him. And thus was born Poster Galliard, never commercially available and used only for this poster and by Eisenman on the cover for The New Criterion (1982). With the help of more than a few friends we have put last names and URLs to each of the first names on this specimen so you can know who was actually responsible for this and what became of them. It was an impressive crew. Rare. Rare. Rare. Will ship in a tube.
