Godine at Fifty

We’re expecting this to arrive here during the week of November 22—but why not order now? Although we held an advance copy several weeks ago, we did not think to snap any pics to help sell copies before we had them in hand. So, in addition to the cover above is a picture of the David R. Godine eating a burger the day after one of his author’s was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 2014. He’s just like us.

Now, why are we offering this book? Because the very first books about typography that we read were published by David R. Godine. Any designer that only had the design books published by this house would not only have an exceptional library, but if they read the books they’d be head and shoulders above most designers. He made books by and about Tschichold, Gill (before we knew he was a monster), Morison, Blumenthal, Koch, Alice, Angel, and a host of others, available to designers, when scholarly, heavily-illustrated, and well-made books about about graphic design and typography and calligraphy and lettering weren’t really available here. And with his team he produced a tremendous amount of good books. The list is diverse and impressive. This is a good story about producing books with care in Boston.

We. Can’t. Wait. But you’ll have to. This book is presently available for pre-order only.

ALSO: The Author will be signing a limited number of copies for us. You can choose between Signed and Unsigned copes. Signed copies might take a little longer to ship to you.
