[a 2-page letter from Warren Chappell]

$200.00

Here, in his own words (and two pages) is the biography of Warren Chappell. We suppose that makes it his autobiography. Anyway, a nice example of both his handwriting and the problems with postal updates. Let’s take the first first: Note how he starts each new paragraph with a switch to a red pen. That’s something we tend not to do with email. Give it a try. And then the postal update thing: Chappell moved to Norwalk, Connecticut, in 1951. We’ve no idea when this letterhead was printed, but clearly before the introduction of zip codes in 1963. The poor guy had this nice letterhead printed and then write the zip code in by hand every time he wrote a letter—which must have been often as he didn’t have email. Written one year before he moved to Charlottesville, Virginia, he’d soon have an opportunity to set things right.
