Art & Project Bulletin 37: Robert Barry
The Amsterdam gallery Art & Project (1968–2001) was pivotal to the development of contemporary art in the Netherlands and beyond for more than thirty-three years. Or, so begins the description of the recent monograph on the gallery. We first noticed their bulletins as lovely examples of design. A little Univers. A little typewriter. A nice Air Mail notice. A nice postage stamp. In this case, the stamp features a portrait by Sem Hartz with his lettering. But the meat of the item is a word piece by American conceptual artist Richard Barry (b. 1936).
