de-gemeenschap-april-1931
De Gemeenschap (April 1931)

De Gemeenschap was a Dutch magazine and eponymous publisher, established in Utrecht from 1925 and Bilthoven from 1935, for young Catholic intellectuals from 1925 to 1941. And who knew young Catholic intellectuals are so cool? The interior of this is nothing to write to the Romans about, but the front cover is a photomontage stunner designed by Piet Worm (1909–1996), a Dutch muralist, illustrator, bookplate designer, and typographer. Actually, he did a lot more, but we won’t bore you. This cover shows his avant garde bona fides to full effect. Somebody get that baby a bottle! And slap that creepy smile off that smug face above! And those people in the hand shouldn’t just sit there. They should do nothing! Weird wild fun.
