One Hundred Books Famous in Typography

If you want to ruffle feathers, make a list of the 100 best of anything and see what happens. It’s a gutsy move. Here Jerry Kelly has made that move in this exhibition catalogue for the Grolier Club’s One Hundred Books Famous in Typography exhibition. There are some no-brainers here and some head-scratchers, but all in all this is a tremendous resource that’s sure to make you sit up straight, question authority, and bask in the history of printing, lettering, and typography (in the West [north of the equator {mostly by men}]). It also includes a showing of fifty famous types. No matter which way you look at it, this one’s bound to start conversations.

We carry (and have carried) a number of the books in this book. See what we’ve got in stock here. (We’ve got more in the shop and will add to the site as time allows.) And then get Detail in Typography because it should be on the list. (And Inside Paragraphs, too.)
