Paul Rand’s Bookplate

Paul Rand was full of surprises. Who’d’ve thunk that this would be the design for the bookplate of a modernist master? A lovely piece of ephemera and a glimpse into the personal life of one of the greats.
  • Size: 2.4375 × 2.375 inches
  • Pages: 1 single sheet
  • Binding: na
  • Condition: Fine, but it’s attached to a book about Stanley Morison by James Moran (Hastings House, 1971). Morison is one of the major figures in the history of typography, as a provider of distinguished book typefaces and as one who, in the first half of the twentieth century, did most to raise the study of typography to a scholarly level. And given that this book is attached to Paul Rand’s bookplate, it suggests that Rand considered Morison to be a person of interest and that the book is probably worth reading.
