Portfolio, Vol. 1, Nos. 1–3 (Alexey Brodovitch)

We remember sitting in a lecture by Doug Scott and learning about Portfolio. It seemed like something we would never find—and certainly never acquire. But somehow we did both and it is one of the things we love sharing with students. We have never regretted getting our copies. Art directed by Alexey Brodovitch, every page is remarkable. Every spread is balletic. All three issues are beautiful, useful, and inspiring. No wonder they gave up after three issues. How could they possibly keep this up?

Here we’ve got all three issues—including the exceedingly uncommon second issue in pretty good condition. We’re essentially hoping to sell No. 2 and just throwing in Nos. 1 and 3 for free. Nos. 1 and 3 are in tougher shape, and we’ve made a movie so you can see what you might be in for. We say go for it. You won’t regret it.

  • Size: 10 × 13 inches
  • Issues: 1, 2, 3
  • Binding: Softcovers
  • Condition: Interiors are generally clean, but the cover of No. 1 is detached and taped; No. 2 is good; The spine of No. 3 is gone—which is kinda the usual for this one. We’ve had several and they’re always falling apart. No. 2 is the jewel here—and the hardest to come by.
