royal
Royal

When one works on books about slabs, stencils, shadows, and scripts, one needs a lot of examples around. Like, when Louise Fili was working on Scripts, she picked up this specimen of Stempel’s Royal. Designed by Herbert Thannhaeuser and cut by August Rosenberger, it was released by Stempel in 1928 as Adastra and expanded with swash caps as Schwung-Adastra in 1931 or 1932. Here in the States it was called Royal—which makes it fucking impossible to search for. A neat thing from the collection of Louise Fili—and this is the very item reproduced on pages 306 and 307 of Scripts.
