Schrofer Sketches

Jurriaan Schrofer’s sketches are not only numerous, but also extremely varied. Pencil, watercolor, pen and felt-tip; preliminary studies, proof prints, variations and other stages of the creation and production process. A book of sketches by a graphic designer is unique. Schrofer didn’t discard his drawings and he even kept production drawings and other pre-press material. His sketches and illustrations from the period 1950–1990 have a special visual and poetic strength. For this publication a large selection of them have been reproduced. The book also contains an extensive presentation in word and image of the design and printing process in the pre-digital era. There’s so much innovative and boundary-pushing work here. So good.
