The Work of Giovanni Mardersteig with ‘Monotype’ Faces

Printed on the occasion of Mardersteig’s seventy-fifth birthday, this tribute by John Dreyfus and the Monotype Corporation features his impeccable book work with Monotype faces such as Imprint, Garamond, Bembo, Centaur, Baskerville, and even Pastonchi. (Who knew people actually used Pastonchi?) Set in Mardersteig’s own Dante (obviously) and printed at his Stamperia Valdonega. With an appreciation by Dreyfus, this one is a good introduction to the work of an old typographer more young typographers should know about. This is not flashy or sexy work. It’s just good work.
