We’re always taking in books on consignment. It helps to keep this place fresh. And when the most recent batch of boxes came in, this book jumped out at us. What is that?! we asked ourselves, doing our best to conceal our excitement. The binding was (and is) striking. And inside this 3-pound binding are 212 pages of Deberny & Peignot type specimens—including rules, borders, vignettes, and ornaments. Here you'll see letterpress-printed showings of D&P’s Gothiques, Contact, Jacno, Garamont, Astrée, Baskerville, Série 16, Bodoni, Olympic, Europe, Mont-Blanc, Antiques, Banjo, Peignot, Touraine, Cyclopéen, Méridien, Cristal, Phoebus, Président, Typogravure, Calligraphiques, Scribe, Ondine, and some face called Univers. We’re not sure when it was published, but this beauty serves as a compact history of this important foundry during what surely must have been its final days. This one’s gonna make us lonely when it goes.
