Our thirty-first Standing-Room Only Lecture will have Kelly Rene Bullard taking the 86 bus just a few stops to talk about Helena Bochořáková-Dittrichová. In the early 20th century, Czech artist and printmaker Bochořáková-Dittrichová was thinking about many things: Workers rights, craft and culture and, of course, the 1645 siege of Brno. Take a whirlwind tour of the artist’s little known 1936 wordless woodcut novel Švédové před Brnem (or Swedes at Brno) and receive short answers to big questions such as: Who is Helena Bochořáková-Dittrichová? What is a wordless novel? How do you read a wordless novel? What were Swedes doing in Brno in 1645? And more!
Our speaker, Kelly Rene Bullard, is Assistant Curator of Printing & Graphic Arts at the Harvard’s Houghton Library, where she curated the current exhibition about Helena Bochořáková-Dittrichová.
Thirty tickets are available for $10 each.

Standing-Room Only Lectures aim to present short talks about graphic design, typography, and collecting. The lectures are kept to about twenty minutes because—true to its name—the series takes place in our standing-room only gallery. So, wear comfortable shoes and bring a short attention span.
