Fuji

$40.00

We are of the opinion that anything done by Fanette Mellier (and her publisher Alexandre Chaize) is magic. This one brings together thirty-six photographs of Mount Fuji, paying tribute to Hokusai’s Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji, while drawing inspiration from it and moving beyond it. Designed as a loop, the book takes the reader on a journey around the volcano, multiplying viewpoints and shifting scales. The sequence of photographs follows the chronology of the journey, while the book adopts the Japanese reading direction, from right to left. Page by page, color gradually reveals itself through an experimental printing process in which the inks are varied throughout the print run, making each copy unique. A very special thing. And here’s a nice movie about it »
