Das Fahrten- und Abenteurbuch (Jan Tschichold)
We’re guessing you don’t go in much for travel and adventure books written by the Scottish-German journalist and writer Colin Ross, so here’s the pitch for this one: it was designed by a twenty-three-year-old Jan Tschichold. He was practically a child when he prepared this one. He hadn’t even settled on his first name yet, crediting himself as “Ivan Tschichold”—so taken was he by Soviet design that he wanted to be thought of as Russian. Set in a mix of romans with big, bold sans, it’s an interesting showing of what was to come from one of the great typographic thinkers when he was still thinking about what he thought.
