American Wood Type: 1828–1900
We were taught that wood type is best used in a fireplace. We’re not sure this book convinces us otherwise, but it is a tremendous resource and showcase of completely bonkers type design. Every conceivable eye-catching gimmick of the nineteenth century can be found on these pages. Despite what we’ve typed above, there’s a lot of inspiration to be taken from these showings of types designed with a freedom and vitality that is rarely seen. This is the first edition with what we think is the best jacket.
