Bruce Rogers: A Life in Letters, 1870–1957

$60.00

Bruce Rogers was without doubt the most important figure in twentieth-century American bookmaking, and there exists an extensive and diverse literature devoted to his work. All of it, however, has been fragmentary, dealing with one aspect or another of a career that spanned over fifty productive years. There has long been a need for a definitive account of Rogers and his books. This is that definitive account. There are chapters on the early years; the Riverside Press down the street in Cambridge; designing the Centaur type; the affluent decade of the 1920s; the dramatically fruitful years spent in England producing Fra Luca de Pacioli, the Odyssey, and the Oxford Lectern Bible; and his many designs for the Limited Editions Club. We remember reading this book almost thirty years ago and it made an impression. Is this Bruce Rogers and this book the reason we live in Cambridge? No. But if it will help you buy the book, we can say Yes.
