Cipe Pineles: A Life of Design
Cipe Pineles played a pioneering role in the development of graphic design during the era in which the field was just beginning to define itself. In 1930 Pineles embarked on a career that would span nearly sixty years and take her to the upper echelons of American graphic design. From an apprenticeship with the legendary Dr. M. F. Agha at Condé Nast, she went on to art direct Glamour, Seventeen, Charm, and Mademoiselle, which made her the first independent American woman art director. This is her story told with tons of pictures and just the right amount of words. It’s a looker worth reading.
