Design in Business Printing

$100.00

There is a keen appreciation today (or, there was when this book was published in 1952) of the importance of design for industry. A proper understanding of the materials and methods employed, and ultimate use of the article which is produced, has considerably enhanced the value of craftsmanship. This book was written by Herbert Spencer as a contribution towards a better realization of the functions of the typographer. It’s a personal exposition, and clearly shows the value of determining the purpose and the correct treatment of each article of printing. Even if the bulk of the things illustrated and described would never be printed today, there are digital equivalents that will keep this book relevant for a long time. There’s a lot to learn in this one and Herbie Spencer knew what he was talking about. We should probably put together a show of all the amazing things Spencer worked on. Or, you can do it. Let us know how it goes.

Fair. The cover looks like someone with dandruff rubbed their head all over it. (We sometimes have dandruff. It was not us who did that.) There are some spots on the inside and the book is a little musty—but only when you smell it. Signature of previous owner on flyleaf
