Leonard Baskin: Sculpture & Drawings
In 2021, after eighty-nine years, Mayflower Poultry in East Cambridge closed its doors and took down its famous sign which read Live Poultry, Fresh Killed. Maybe if they’d hung this Leonard Baskin poster in their window they could’ve lasted a little longer. (Or, maybe we could’ve walked down the street and bought some chicken there to help out.) Anyway, here’s a poster from LB’s 1969 show at the Borgenicht Gallery in New York City. Printed in two colors, what’s especially neat about this is that it was signed by the legendary pressman at Genenna Press, Harold P. McGrath. (Baskin’s signature is printed and not real.) A fine-looking bird.
