Metz en Co

$300.00

Although we skimped on photos for this one, we’ve made a movie of it so you can see every page in glorious 4K. This spectacular showing of furniture from the Metz department store in Amsterdam and the Hague is a perfect representation of its time, with a cover by J. Makowsky. Showings of then-contemporary pieces by Gerrit Rietveld, Mies van der Rohe, Oulde, and Breuer are peppered throughout. Metz seemed like a nice place. And check that typography: Most of it smacks of Zwart (who did work for Metz) but it would be irresponsible of us to suggest that this is his work as we can find no reference to him designing catalogues for Metz. But it’s definitely Zwart-adjacent. Rare.
