Modern Uses of Antique and Exotic Types
Fashions in type faces, like fashions in women’s apparel, undergo cycles of revival. Although not generally realized, many of the so-called “modern” type faces that have attained high popularity during the past decade* have in reality been no more than restyled variants of designs popular a half century or a century ago.** This showing of mostly ridiculous advertising faces are shown here to good effect and made more modern than we’d have guessed with careful settings and restrained combinations. Neat. Neat. Neat.
