[E.R. Weiss proof for the spine lettering of a Goethe book]

$90.00

Insel Verlag is getting ready to publish a book of Goethe’s correspondence with Austrian actress and dancer Marianne von Willemer, his collaborator and possible lover. They (Insel Verlag) hire E.R. Weiss to carry out the design of the spine. This is a proof of the brass die made for the titling lettering and an ornamental vignette. Now, we tried to get a copy of the book to include with the proof, but the only nice copy we could find was in Germany and the seller wouldn’t ship to the US. We have friends in Germany but we’ve not been in touch for a couple of years and it seemed crummy to write them just because we needed a favor. So, here’s the book we wanted to include with this. Get in touch with your German friends and see if they can get the book. They’d love to hear from you.

  • Size: 3.5 × 3.5 inches
