Otl Aicher

Otl Aicher (1922–1991), a key international figure in postwar design and a pioneer in the field of corporate identity and visual communication systems, died mowing his lawn. Before his death he was responsible for the design program for the 1972 Summer Olympics in Munich. And Lufthansa. And BASF. He helped found the Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) in Ulm, an experimental design school in the spirit of the Bauhaus, and wrote several books on the theory and practice of design and typography. After his death, his work was the focus of one of our Standing-Room Only Lectures.
