Rudolf Koch: Ein deutscher Schreibmeister (A German Writing-Master)
The importance of the significant and even unique role played by Rudolf Koch in the art work of our day was realized by the German nation only after his death. We need not grieve at this belated recognition. This master artist never worked for the sake of fame or public appraisement. A favorite motto of his which he liked to write out, was: “Honors and splendor have no power, worldly renown fades like a meadow-flower.“ (Curiously, someone was just shit-talking another famous calligrapher who craved honors and splendor and now we wonder if that famous calligrapher ever wrote out that maxim.) Produced four years after Koch’s death, this was a timely survey of his work and influence. It’s the sixth in a series of monographs on artistic letterers and it comes from the library of Inge Druckrey.
