Sie dringt durch . . . unsere neue Schrift: Flott
When one works on books about slabs, stencils, shadows, and scripts, one needs a lot of examples around. Like, when Louise Fili was working on Scripts, she picked up this specimen of Bauer’s Flott, designed by William S. Gillies and released in two weights in 1934/1935 by Bauer. Named Flott in Germany, Bolide in France, and Vigor by Neufville in Spain. This is a beautiful specimen of an unfortunately-named face. (That said, in German flott means brisk.) Apparently in the USA only Harvard has a copy. A total charmer from the collection of Louise Fili—and this is the very item reproduced on pages 130–133 of Scripts. Historic!
