The Alphabet: Fifteen Interpretive Designs (Goudy)

$150.00

We’ve never loved the work of Frederic W. Goudy. We appreciate that he did it with commitment and care, but we can’t think of a time we’ve turned to his work for inspiration. It’s just not for us. This book, however, is a beauty. We’d seen cheap later editions made for the masses and it always looked, well, cheap and dumb. The type was gray and weak, like someone peed in the ink. This first edition, though, is something else. Nice paper. Type as black as the winter solstice night is long. It really needed the right kind of presentation. A unique approach to the history of lettering along with fifteen unique interpretations of our alphabet. A beautiful thing that makes us think about rethinking what we think about FWG.
