Pergamon: A Greek Script Typeface Design
The Anatolian continent (aka Asia Minor) is a cultural geography that has hosted various civilizations for thousands of years. Located in the western Turkish city of Bergama, Pergamon is a culturally rich and significant Hellenistic capital and a metropolitan city of the Roman period in the Mysia region. But what does all that mean? It means the 24-letter Greek alphabet had applications in different ancient Greek city-states throughout various geographies and some letterforms had idiosyncratic features based on where the letters came from. Pergamon is one of the cities that contain the unique “inscriptions of honor” carved in stone to pay homage to its rulers. This book presents a Greek script type revival based on the documentation of this rich epigraphic heritage.
