To Edward A. Karr, the Society of Calligraphers desires to express its appreciation (W.A. Dwiggins)

$650.00

The Society of Calligraphers was founded by two men: W.A Dwiggins and himself. In time, other notables of the lettering and printing arts were elected to membership. Others might receive certificates of appreciation. Boston calligrapher (and later a president of the Society of Printers) received this certificate in 1953 for his work as an instructor in calligraphy at the Museum of Fine Arts School. Some of the certificate is printed from Dwiggins’ lettering (To, THE SOCIETY OF CALLIGRAPHERS desires to express its appreciation; BOSTON, and The Society of Calligraphers) while the rest was written out by Dwiggins in his palsied hand. The certificate came in the beautiful Society envelope with the return-address label with Dwiggins’ home address in Hingham, Massachusetts. It was addressed to Karr in Dwiggins’ less-shaky hand but it lacks a stamp, suggesting it was delivered in-person. Two very special things.
