Typomundus 20

$100.00

The purpose of this one was to gather, preserve, and document as complete a collection as possible of the most significant typography of the twentieth century (circa 1966). But the entire project went far beyond this idea alone. Typomundus 20 became the first internationally judged exhibition of world typography. The exhibition was planned by the International Center for the Typographic Arts and began with a Call for Entries which was sent to 200,000 people in all fields of graphic design. Over 10,000 entries were received at assembly points in Australia, Canada, Czechoslovakia, England, Germany, Japan, and the United States. From these collection points the entries were forwarded to Toronto, where they were arranged for judging by the Society of Typographic Designers of Canada. The jury, consisting of twelve world-renowned designers, devoted an entire week to the prodigious task of judging. The members of this jury were not only eminent but each of them, through their creative achievements, had contributed significantly to the development of the day’s typography. Are you still reading? Because this one has over 500 works representing a cross-section of graphic communication since 1900: advertising, packaging, posters, books, trade marks, etc. It just keeps going without a dog in the bunch. (We just flipped through again and saw no dogs depicted.) From the library of Toshi Katayama.
