Word + Image: Swiss Poster Design, 1955–1997

$100.00

This one represents the range of design and creative innovations of thirty Swiss graphic designers whose poster designs illustrate the universal impact of the Swiss design aesthetic. Drawn primarily from the extensive and highly regarded collection of Friend of K. Small Thomas Strong, some of these posters were in our shop when Tom gave a talk about Swiss posters—not with slides, but with the real things. Anyway, the Swiss design aesthetic emphasizes an overall objective clarity of composition, in which the message is an integral part of the design and the designer becomes an “objective conduit” of information to society. Wouldn’t it be nice to live in a society that conveyed information by poster? Maybe? Either way, an excellent peek into a staggeringly impressive collection. And this one has a cover by Bruno Monguzzi.
