A Map of Old Boston
This is a map of good old Boston, the home of the bean and the cod, where the Lowells talk only to Cabots, and the Cabots talk only to God.
When we were in school we were told about an art professor who’d taken a piece of paper and cut out a 1-inch square. He would toss it down at random on the work of his students and they’d discuss whether or not that square inch was interesting. Every square inch of this map is interesting and Charles R. Capon would’ve had no reason to fear that professor’s hole. It’s a charming example of the letterer and cartographer’s arts—and the Hub of the Universe has never looked so good.
