[cap ER cut by Philip Surey]

$500.00

What a pleasure are hand-cut letters. These were cut by Philip Surey, a 1996 graduate of the City & Guilds of London Art School who later assisted Richard Kindersley and Ralph Beyer in their shops before going out on his own as a sculptor and letter carver. (We keep an alphabet carved by Phil above our desk.) Now, this regal pairing was carried out without a memorable purpose—by which we mean that Phil couldn’t remember why he cut them. He thought it might have been a test for something having to do with Queen Elizabeth, but he couldn’t be sure. Regardless of the purpose, they’re lovely forms cut beautifully, and this piece of Portland Whitbed would make a thoughtful gift for Emily Rye, Emma Roberts, Emily Ratajkowski, Eddie Redmayne, Emmy Rossum, or Ernő Rubik (the inventor of the Rubik’s Cube).
