[Copy of a 3-page letter from Merle Armitage to Beatrice Warde in which he rips her a new one]
Merle Armitage is pissed. He does not like how he has been portrayed in The Crystal Goblet. He does not like it one bit. He writes to Beatrice Warde—an “Apostle of Dullness”—to let her know how wrong she is about . . . everything. We have a collection of emails that we type buy do not send. Here’s one. Often sending them hardly seems worth the potential drama and we are forced to kill our darlings. But apparently this letter to BW was held in some regard as Linotype’s Paul Bennett had a reference librarian at UCLA type up this copy for him. Paul’s December 1960 carbon copy thanking that reference librarian (Edna C. Davis) for typing it is included.
