EV Roman (Philip Surey)

$700.00

What a pleasure are handsome letters. These were painted by Philip Surey, a 1996 graduate of the City & Guilds of London Art School who later assisted Richard Kindersley and Ralph Beyer in their shops before going out on own as a sculptor and letter carver. This piece was an alternative working study when he was working on another piece now held at the Akademie der Kunste in Berlin, and it shows his ruled pencil lines—and even multiple takes at his signature in the lower right corner. It’s a total beauty. The form is one he calls EV RomanEV for English Vernacular. A lovely thing.

  • Size: 22 × 29.75 inches
  • Pages: 1 sheet
  • Binding: NA
  • Condition: Some minor dimpling, creasing, and soiling at the edges. It’s been rolled in a tub and the heavy Fabriano paper is not anxious to lay flat.
  • Note: We had this professionally photographed and we’d be glad to give you the hi-res file (with purchase of the piece) as it could come in handy and it seems a shame for that file to be unused.
