Gabor Peterdi (Lorenzo Homar)
There’s a lot going on in this one. First of all, it’s a poster by Lorenzo Homar for a show of by Gabor Peterdi. Judging by the illustrations, it was a show of his etchings. Note the border which references plate mark. Also, in the dark square at the top there is a 2-color thing going on that beautifully mimics the cross-hatching in an etching. We were once told that Peterdi would walk around with a piece of paper with a 1-inch square cut out of it. He’d through it down on a student’s print to check if every square inch was interesting. Anyway, that is a nice homage by Homar, about whom Poster House writes: “Lorenzo Homar was a pioneering printmaker, poster designer, calligrapher, painter, illustrator, caricaturist, and costume and theatrical set designer. Active from the 1950s through the 1990s, few equal his impact and influence as a teacher of poster design and printmaking in Latin America.” This is one of those pioneering posters.
