Girl Scout Leader (December 1964)
We know you take the Girl Scout Leader, so you probably already know that it covered printing and typography in its December 1964 issue. But do you know who wrote the article about printing as a hobby (called “Printing as a Hobby”)? J. Ben Lieberman, an authority on typography and a co-founder of the American Printing History Association. So that’s neat. Then there is an uncredited article about typography as a fine art (called “Typography as a Fine Art”). It offers good advice, like Start a collection of type specimens. It also features a photograph of the former editor of the Leader, Fjeril Hess, at her own press. Ms Hess wrote many books—including Sandra’s Cellar. Note the jacket. Is the illustration based on the photo or the photo based on the illustration? We’ll never know.
