After graduating from the Department of Design at the Tokyo National University of Fine Arts and Music in 1956, Masayhoshi Nakajo worked in the advertising department of the cosmetics firm Shiseido. Before establishing his own design office, Nakajo also worked and for the design studio Deska design studio under graphic designer Takashi Kono before establishing his own design office. Influenced by the Art Deco movement, Nakajo formed his own experimental visual language that referenced contemporary culture. By breaking down and reconstructing design components such as typography and image graphics, he introduced a new visual experience through his creation. And now you know as much as we do. (And we just stole all of the preceding copy from the Cooper Hewitt.) This book’s 2-page introduction gives just a taste of the esteem in which he is held in Japan—the remaining sixty or so pages will show why he’s earned that esteem, with picture after picture of good work.
