Max Caflisch: Typographia practica

This is one we turn to when we get stuck. Although largely a collection of German-language tributes to book- and type designer Max Caflisch, it is loaded with samples of his work. It’s not flashy work. It is merely exceptional and carried out with excruciating care. It’s one of those books we can’t imagine parting with, and it makes us look forward to the day when our robot overlords will be able to read it to us in English, as that seems more likely to happen than our learning to read German.
