“My bounty is as boundless as the sea, my love as deep” (Philip Surey)
What a pleasure are hand-painted letters—especially when arranged into words by Shakespeare as spoken by Juliet. You might know Juliet from Romeo and Juliet. She said these sweet nothings to Romeo in Act II, Scene 2 of the play about an ill-fated love affair between two overly dramatic teens. Still, it’s a nice sentiment. These were lettered by Philip Surey, a 1996 graduate of the City & Guilds of London Art School who later assisted Richard Kindersley and Ralph Beyer in their shops before going out on his own as a sculptor and letter carver. (We keep an alphabet carved by Phil above our desk.) Now, these finer feelings were painted on Welsh roofing slate from North Wales quarries like Penrhyn and Ffestiniog, renowned for lasting over 100 to 150 years. That’s not nearly as long as our love for you will last (if you buy this item), but it’s a start.
