Printing Office Collection
An exhaustive list of 1,320 books which influenced and informed their owner, Roderick “Rocky” Stinehour, and were available for the enjoyment and edification of the staff of his legendary scholarly press in Lunenburg, Vermont. No mere list of books, it’s a checklist of graphic- and typographic foundations and holds clues to forgotten books one won’t see on Instagram. But let us tell you something about Rocky and how a conversation we had with him changed the course of our working lives. We were complaining (No surprise.) about the fact that people weren’t reading the books we were printing. He said that when he got started as a printer he didn’t want to make merely beautiful books. He wanted to make useful books. Up until that moment it had never occurred to us that books were—first and foremost—meant to be useful. Duh. This book is useful.
