Recent American Synagogue Architecture
Designed by Elaine Lustig and printed at Clarke & Way and Meriden Gravure, this is the exhibition catalog for a show held at the Jewish Museum about exactly what its title suggests. It is a significant architectural document as it was organized by a young Richard Meier (before his “New York Five” fame and Pritzker Prize) and features seminal modernist works, including Louis Kahn’s Mikveh Israel Synagogue and projects by Philip Johnson and Frank Lloyd Wright. A nice little piece of design showcase buildings meant to inspire awe.
