Ridendo, 2me Année No. 30 (20 May 1935)

$20.00

When one works on books about slabs, stencils, shadows, and scripts, one needs a lot of examples around. Like, when Louise Fili was working on Scripts, she picked up this 1935 issue of Ridendo: Revue gaie pour les médecins, a French humor journal intended for the medical profession. Founded in 1934, and published by the Office de vulgarisation pharmaceutique, this issue has a cover by Jacques Touchet showing two doctors, one of which is having good-natured fun with a speculum. MDR! (FYI: That’s the French equivalent of LOL. It’s short for mort de rire, or “dying of laughter.”) Other comparable cartoons (and scripts) are inside. From the collection of Louise Fili—and this is the very item reproduced on page 16 of Scripts. Historic!
