Tenth Anniversary: Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts

$80.00

OK all you rock ’n’ rollers. This one’s for you. It might appear to be 1973–74 course catalogue for art classes held at Harvard. (Because it is). A careful reading, however, will reveal photography classes by Len Gittleman. And under the heading of “Former Visiting Faculty” one will see the name John Hubley. You’ll know Len as the father of Joe Gittleman, the bass player for The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. John was the father of Georgia Hubley, the drummer for Yo La Tengo, whose album Summer Sun is just about the only thing we play when the shop is open. There are references, too, to former instructors like Gyorgy Kepes (Spring ’65), Bruno Munari (Spring ’67), and Willem Sandberg (Fall ’69–70). Graphic design was taught by Toshihiro Katayama, who Cantabrigians will know as the designer-artist who made the black-and-white step thing in Porter Square. Anyway, a neat and rare document in immaculate condition.
