The Book of Specimens (Stanhope Press)
Boston. It’s 1905. The Society of Printers was just founded. The Stanhope Press is looking to drum up business and show of what they can do. They produce this handsome showing of types, typesetting, design, Greek, maths, music, color printing (including something they call “wax engraving”), paper samples, binding cloths, and leathers. This was a serious operation. An excellent document of early twentieth century printing when Boston was the hub of the solar system.
