The Whole Present System [Bram de Does]

$200.00

Published in 1972 by David R. Godine, this dramatic photogravure broadside features a poignant Civil War photograph of Union soldiers resting beneath a tree. Positioned below the image is an elegant block of text lettered by 38-year-old Bram de Does. That aforementioned text is from a footnote from Walt Whitman’s 1871 Democratic Vistas, in which he fiercely condemns the rigid military hierarchy of the United States army and navy as a "monstrous exotic" and an "aristocratic" contradiction to the egalitarian spirit of American democracy. We’re pretty sure Secretary Hegseth would not approve. A perfect item for your rustic cottage and/or collection of work by Bram de Does. You choose.
