Non-arbitrary proportions of the book page and the type area are serious business. We know this because Jan Tschichold took everything seriously. Although we can’t read a word of this, it is still useful as a model of typography and typographic illustrations, all of it printed from metal. Set in Dante types to Tschichold’s specifications, the whole is a little miracle of printing.
