For our twelfth Standing-Room Only Lecture, Cyrus Highsmith, June Shin, Cem Eskinazi, and Marie Otsuka will take the T from Providence to come talk about life at Occupant Fonts and what it means to be an Occupant.
For this one talk our speakers number four: Cyrus Highsmith is a letter drawer, teacher, author, and graphic artist. He teaches type design at Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). He wrote and illustrated the acclaimed primer Inside Paragraphs: Typographic Fundamentals. In 2015, he received the Gerrit Noordzij Prize for extraordinary contributions to the fields of type design, typography, and type education. In 2017, he became Creative Director for Latin Type Development at Morisawa USA. June Shin is a graphic and type designer based in New York City. Her work has been recognized by Type Directors Club, Art Directors Club, Communication Arts, and more. Cem Eskinazi is a Turkish graphic designer, type designer and educator. He teaches at both undergraduate and graduate levels at RISD. Marie Otsuka is a type designer, graphic designer, and programmer. In addition to designing type, she works on tool engineering at Occupant Fonts.

Standing-Room Only Lectures aim to present short talks about graphic design, typography, and collecting. The lectures are kept to about twenty minutes because—true to its name—the series takes place in our standing-room only gallery. So, wear comfortable shoes and bring a short attention span.
